Shepherds in the 1880's
The work of a Shepherd usually ran in families all wearing the same traditional smocks.
William Pepper and his brother John were shepherds, also son Amos, William's eldest son.
Rebecca Pepper was the daughter of William and his wife Jane Green. The couple had eight children, Rebecca was the youngest. The family lived in Bicker Lincolnshire. Rebecca later went to Sleaford to work as a domestic servant and married our great grandfather Thomas Bird.
I live about 10 miles from Donington where Jane Green was born and only 6 miles from Gosberton where George was born, so the family has not moved too far from their roots.
Trisha (descendant)
